It’s great to set your intentions and make goals so that you can feel more productive and successful in all areas of your life. If you are one of those people who sets goals consider that there are 3 important factors.
Common sense organizing tip #1
First, make your goal(s) achievable. Of course you want to stretch yourself but at the same time it’s important to make it possible to actually achieve what you are setting out to do. Remember that you can always enhance the goal or add another after you achieve the first one. Achievable goals are measurable, incremental, and easy to integrate into current routines.
Common sense organizing tip #2
Second, strive for consistency. Changing or creating new behavior and habits can only succeed with practice, repetition and reward. When you focus on implementing the new behavior on a consistent basis and the reward that you get from doing so overrides the difficulty in doing it, you will succeed.
Common sense organizing tip #3
The third factor in achieving your goal is to have a system of accountability. If you are a visual learner you may benefit from using a log or checklist to monitor your progress. If you are an auditory learner, check in with an accountability coach on a regular basis. Perhaps you are a tactile-kinesthetic learner. If so, create a token system where you can drop something into a container, or tear off a tab from a master chart.
