There is no time like now to update your image. Why wait to…lose weight, get in shape, get a new job, start dating, and so on? Image is more than what you wear. Your image is the outside, that projects your inside. The two must be aligned but sometimes it takes immediate reinforcement and quick results to motivate the long term changes. Here are aspects of image that I want you to consider: Health – physical and emotional well being and strength Confidence – how you view yourself and the ways that you want to project that view Appearance – posture, wardrobe, establishing your unique style What would you most like to work on this year? Recruit help to ensure that will happen. You don’t need a lot of money, here are some examples: Health – want to start walking? Recruit a walking partner. Want to learn how to practice yoga? Download an app. Confidence – is it time to work on your presentation or interview skills? Join Toastmasters. Attend a SCORE seminar. Appearance – do you lack a style that suits your best self? Browse store mannequins, take photos of the ones you like. Pour over fashion magazines and make notes about the styles that suit the body you’re in today Need a professional image consultant? Most people assume that thinner body types are easy to dress and look good in everything…not so! It’s all about creating balance and an attractive image. This specific body type can use the right clothing to do several things. For instance: Create a curvy effect, adding volume at the shoulder and hips Use belts, fabric design, and color to create a waist and add overall curve Use details such as ruching, pleats, seaming or ruffles to add volume.
There are different ways that we can describe a woman’s body type. Rather than comparing our bodies to fruits or geometric shapes, I prefer something like those used by fashion stylist, Stacy London: Curvy, Extra Curvy, Not Curvy Bigger on Top Bigger on Bottom Extra in Middle The key question is, do you know how to dress for your body type? Remember these 3 guidelines: (1) Use clothing to create balance and accentuate your best features. (2) Wear clothing that fits well. Most women’s clothing requires some altering. You will be encouraged to step out of your comfort zone and learn what styles, colors, patterns, and accessories create the most fabulous-looking you! Your goal? What if your flight is delayed or cancelled? What if you are sitting on the runway for hours? What if you miss your flight but your luggage didn’t? Yikes, all of these what-if’s! Most of the time everything goes as planned but it’s good to think about what to wear when you head to the airport, as well as what to have in your carry on bag. Years ago I remember that the airlines changed my return flight and I was forced to take the red-eye. That meant that upon arrival I had to go directly to the office. Fortunately, I was able to wear something appropriate for the office and take the basics in my carry on: healthy snacks, eye drops, make up, and hair spray to refresh my appearance. During the flight I made sure to keep hydrated and only had coffee just before landing. Next time you organize for your trip think about what you choose to bring and do during the flight so that you are prepared for the unexpected. You will feel better, I promise.
The best ways to look good all day long is to have a small amount of makeup essentials in your tote bag. There are so many choices on the market. As an Organizer and Image Consultant my advice is to keep it simple. Small containers of the basics will keep you looking refreshed. My favorites: Blotting tissues Translucent powder Lipstick or gloss White eyeshadow – powder or stick (for the inside corners of your eyes Blush Eyeliner
Okay, you’re ready to pack your tote and begin another busy day. As an Organizer I like to start with the essentials, or must-haves. Staying hydrated is important and I love this collapsible, refillable water bottle! It fits neatly in your tote, gym bag, and your car. Put water on the top of your list. Go green, refill bottles. Another plus? This one folds flat when empty and packs for travel!
Are you a busy woman on the go? I’m going to spend the next few posts giving helpful tips to make sure that you are prepared by having everything that you need on hand. Whether you are traveling or just one of the many women who leaves the house at 7:30 a.m. and doesn’t return until 5:00 p.m. there are so many situations that come up. You can keep lots of items organized in your car, but some things just need to be at your fingertips. Let’s start with the basics: you need to carry a tote bag. Tote bags are great because of the variety of styles, fabrics, weights, and price points available. I suggest that you have a classic style, 1 for spring and summer…another for fall and winter. That way, you will get long term use out of your totes. Here are some of the features that might be important to consider having: Zipper closure – make sure that your contents are secure and spill-proof. Easy to clean fabric – totes get a lot of use and need to be easy to clean. Feet on the bottom – it is easier to keep the bottom clean if there are metal or plastic feet. Exterior compartments – these might be on the sides, front, & back of the tote. Compartments are great for keys, umbrellas, hand sanitizer, water bottles, & anything that you want to reach for easily & quickly. Interior compartments – these are helpful for items that are smaller or more sensitive in nature. Your smart phone, MP3 player, or loose items such as pens, & eyeglasses can easily be stored and accessed this way.
Creating your travel wardrobe means that you can mix and match a limited number of pieces and still have enough outfits for the week. Do you want day to night options? Is your priority to have only a carry on bag? Feel free to add your ideas to this list: TIP #1: Stick with a color theme; include neutrals. Be bold and mix unlikely colors such as teal and purple, orange and pink. TIP #2: Commit to wearing an item at least twice. TIP #3: Think in layers…camisoles are great under wraps, jackets, sweaters, shirts, etc. TIP #4: Dress it up or down! By day: wear a trouser jean with a shirt and jacket, ballet flat, tote bag. By night: remove the jacket, wear a sweater with embellishment, pull a clutch bag out of your tote and add heels! TIP #5: Stick to basic, adaptable wardrobe pieces: city shorts, trouser jeans, white shirt, pashmina, tank style dress. TIP #6: Pack fabulous accessories: textured hose can dress up shorts, metallic flats can be worn day or nighttime, white shirt can be dressed up with a sequined belt and big earrings. Be creative!!

Ex.: the clothes I am waiting to wear when I lose those last 10 pounds. #4: I will ask a friend or professional for an honest assessment of what clothing flatters my body type. #5: I will only wear clothing that is flattering and comfortable. #6: My wardrobe will express my personality and lifestyle.
