Here’s my article with easy tips to help you look your best in 2013: http://www.beautyinforum.com/2013/01/15/spark-up-your-wardrobe/
I love helping women shop in their own closet, creating new outfits from clothing they already own (and hopefully like). This lovely woman couldn’t decide if she wanted keep the sweater or skirt. In working with her I learned that she wanted an all white wardrobe and so, we put her pieces together with a great belt. She looked fantastic and was so happy.
The easiest way to create an outfit is to being at the bottom…pants or a skirt. The right fit is essential so that you are comfortable. Then, focus on the top(s). Depending upon the occasion you may want to layer a top under a sweater or jacket. Avoid the “matchy matchy” and think about these options: Use complementary colors. Mix textures. Vary patterns such as stripes under plaid. Skip the jewelry and wear something with an embellishment.
I am always saying that the best tip for looking good is wearing clothing that fits. Nothing looks worse than clothing that is too tight, baggy, low cut, or short unless it is appropriate for your body type. Still, we need to consider age (sorry), comfort, and whether it is event-appropriate. So, do you now how to select jeans that flatter your body type? Straight leg – creates a slimming effect for countering fullness at the hips & butt. Helps create a lengthening effect by not breaking at the knee or ankle, too. Trouser leg – also has a slimming effect for larger thighs & calves. If you are petite, consider wearing a heel. Flare leg – adds curve especially if there is embellishment or pocket lapels on the butt.
A few simple changes will give you a new, more polished look! Update your eyeglass frames next time you get your eyes checked. Try on wigs to see what a new style might look like. Bring an honest friend along. Add a little color with blush and tinted lip gloss. Send me your photo for more personalized ideas!
Despite the current heat wave I can’t help but begin to think about ideas for a holiday wardrobe. Keep it simple and use layering and accessorizing to expand your outfits. Color continues to be big this season. I love this silky print under the gorgeous hip length jacket. Dress it up with a vintage brooch, tuxedo pants, & heels. Next time you can wear it with a classic white shirt, pencil skirt, and boots. Remember to shop in your closet, first. Update something you own and love with a current trend. Need ideas? Send me photos!
The end of the season is always a good time to (re-)organize your closet. Outside In Organizer and Makeovers wants you to be able to SEE and WEAR everything you own. The best ways to do that is to: #1: Get rid of anything you don’t love, isn’t flattering, haven’t worn in more than a year. (It’s okay, our bodies change.) #2: Clean, mend anything that you are keeping so it is ready to wear. (In San Diego we get a lot of freeway dust and mold.) #3: Organize your clothing so you can put together outfits together easily. (This can be by item, color, etc.) #4: Use it or lose it! Use this tip (thanks Peter Walsh)…turn all of the hangers backwards. After each time you wear an item put it back in and face the hanger the correct way. At the end of the season, let go of all of the items that are still on backwards hangers!
No one has the perfect body, just ask the beautiful models we see in magazines and they’ll find something to criticize about themselves! So stop waiting for perfection and embrace your shape today. You are already perfect! You can enhance your image and update your look in simple, inexpensive ways. Here are a few tips from Outside In Organizer and Makeovers that you can choose from right now: #1: Donate the clothes that no longer make you look your best. These are items that are too big, too tight, the wrong color, etc. #2: If you are partial to neutrals, expand your definition of “neutral” to include gray, navy, brown…have fun mixing them. FYI-wearing black doesn’t hide a thing! #3: Use a “POP” of color or a metallic to spruce up an outfit. Try this with an accessory or pair of shoes. #4: Emphasize the features that you like best. That might include a bold lipstick for the shape of your lips. Use details like seaming or embellishments to draw the eye towards those features. #5: Wear clothing that fits. Baggy clothes only make you look baggy, really! Have fun with these tips. You’ll look better on the outside and it will make you feel better inside.
