Time management and productivity are important to us and those we live and interact with. Whatever your current status…self employed, raising a family or retired, your contributions and ability to get things done is important. Selfish time management means not taking on more than you are able to or want to. It includes establishing healthy boundaries, sharing the workload, setting realistic goals and deadlines, and delegating tasks to others in your family or workplace. Selfish time management skills allow you to:

Selfish time management allows you to be a more positive role model for others. Do you sometimes worry that saying “no” to someone will create a problem? If you can find the right way and reasons to say no, then it’s more likely that the other person will understand and have respect for your boundaries. It may even allow them to use that skill in the future. Conversely, when you allow time to say “yes” you help to establish a more dependable relationship with the other person. You want people to know when they can depend on you. Selfish time management such as delegating to others shows that you have confidence in their capabilities. Work out the main areas of your life such as: self care, relationships, finances, career and household. Then find the skills that will support addressing each of these areas:

  • Planning
  • Scheduling, time estimation
  • Purging tasks and activities that you don’t need or want to do
  • Delegating activities that others can and want to do
