Organizing goals | Less is more Organizing goals can help you to set your sights on getting things done. Did you write organizing goals for 2018? It’s not too late to create them and I encourage you to write them down and post them in a place where you will see them on a daily basis. I wrote mine down and set my intention to live a more streamlined and less cluttered life. Here are some of my goals for the year: (Organizing tip: keep your list of goals to no more than 3. As you accomplish them you can add another.) Decluttering, Organizing goals: let it go if you don’t need or use it. Remember to discard or recycle items appropriately. Donate and consign items in good condition, someone else can use them. Let go of the items that I no longer need or use (donate). Examples: knick knacks, excess office supplies, unused bins. Thin out photos that are not in albums (scan some, frame others, discard duplicates). One of the many benefits of organizing is that you will enjoy things that you keep. Use a CRM to go paperless with client files (shred). Productivity, Time management goals: get important tasks done, projects accomplished, and meet deadlines. Be strategic and focus on what is important. Identify time wasters. I own my business and work from home. These organizing goals reduce distractions and improve my productivity. Follow up with previous clients and leads (phone, text, email) Create a block of time (15-30 minutes) for daily meditation and or journal writing Read for 30 minutes, nightly Wardrobe update; Image consulting goals: Everyone deserves to look their best, feel confident, and enjoy their wardrobe to the fullest. Let go of clothes that I don’t wear (consign, donate) Update outfits with inexpensive, trendy… read more →

Women’s Networking Wardrobe Tips Networking Wardrobe Tips are meant to support your goals and strategies for building professional relationships and creating more business. When I assist men and women with my image consulting services I offer easy ways to look professional and confident. Here are some of my important Wardrobe Do’s and Don’ts based upon actual observations of how women show up at business networking meetings. Networking Wardrobe Tips – DO Always wear comfortable shoes so that you can walk distances and stand for long periods of time. Recently a colleague couldn’t find parking near the meeting site and had to carry supplies to and from the meeting while walking in stiletto heels. Thank goodness I saw her as I was driving and offer her a ride! Always wear something with pockets that can hold your business cards, eyeglasses, and a pen. Sounds obvious but instead of having to hold your purse you can be hands-free to shake hands as you meet people then offer them your card. Consider updating your wardrobe with trouser Jeans rather than regular blue jeans. Trouser jeans can look professional especially when worn with a heeled shoe. They are always figure flattering for any body type and are very comfortable. Trouser jeans solve the pocket problem and usually come in a dark wash or black fabric. Women’s Networking Wardrobe Tips – Don’t Don’t wear workout wear to a business meeting. Honestly, even if your business is personal training or you own a fitness studio your body will be in good shape and make that obvious. You are at the meeting to do business, market, and create leads. Let your marketing materials do the work so that you can look like the professional people want to hire. … read more →
Image Consulting Tips | My Favorites Image Consulting Tips are for everyone because everyone has (or needs) a style. As an Image Consultant and Personal Organizer I help men and women explore their style as a form of self expression and creativity. What would change in your life if you uncovered your authentic style? Image Consulting Tip #1: You don’t wear your style, you are your style. “Fashion fades, only style remains the same.” Who said it better than Coco Chanel? Image Consulting Tip #2: Style is fluid and dynamic. Don’t get stuck in wearing only one type of look, accessorizing the same way with each outfit, or limiting the elements that you choose such as color. Unless you are a style icon like Vera Wang who says, “Like most designers, I have a uniform, and mine is a legging.”, you want flexibility and variety in your wardrobe. Image Consulting Tip #3: Update your style. Your body changes, your life circumstances change, and your needs change. It’s important to reflect upon your style and update your wardrobe, if needed, on a regular basis so that you feel it represents your best self at this point in time. Image Consulting Tip #4: How you wear something is the statement. Whose style do you admire most? Maybe it is someone that you work with or a friend. What is it that you really like about his or her style? It’s probably not about the specific item or where he or she shops. When you look at that person you are likely to think or say, “He always looks so put together.” “Her look is simple, but sophisticated.” “She looks fabulous even in a tee shirt and jeans!” What is it about that person and more importantly, remember that it can be you!… read more →
Organize Your Wardrobe There are 4 ways to organize your wardrobe. Let’s focus on organizing your clothing, not your closet. The benefits of organizing your wardrobe are: Expand your wardrobe selections. Make getting dressed easier and save time. Wear more of the items that you own. Increase your creativity instead of wearing the same things, the same way. As your San Diego Personal Organizer and Image Consultant I love to share men’s and women’s wardrobe tips. There are easy ways to help you update your wardrobe and create outfits with the clothes that you already have! I am talking about sorting and organizing the contents of your closet and drawers, not how you store and where you locate the items. 4 Ways to Organize Your Wardrobe: Color: Organizing your clothes by color can help you to find new ways to use color. Find new ways to use color t0 rather than simply matching colors or combine a color with a neutral. You can think about wearing complementary colors, all neutrals for a sophisticated and monochromatic look, and adding a pop of color to update your style as well. Category: Most people prefer to organize their wardrobe by grouping like items with like items. That means putting all pants, tops, etc. together with one another. This way makes sense and can be efficient but doesn’t necessarily enhance creativity (see #4). Length: Organizing by length can make dressing easier when changes in temperature are a consideration. You can order your clothing from sleeveless to long sleeve, shorter skirts/dresses to long, and jackets to coats. Outfit: My favorite way to organize your wardrobe is the organize your clothing by outfits. This is the best way to expand your style and wardrobe. It also makes it easy to make choices for travel! Organizing clothing clutter Organizing clothing clutter is especially difficult for some people. The top 5 reasons people tell their San Diego Professional Organizer they can’t let go of clothing: It used to fit; I hope it will fit again – “I’m hoping to wear it again when I lose those extra pounds.” Sentimental value; good memories – “I remember how happy I was when I wore that.” It can be repaired – “I can get that stain out. I keep meaning to get it altered. I can use it for something else. My favorite: I can wear it at home.” It cost a lot to purchase – “I spent a lot on it. “I have no where to wear it but I spent a lot of money on it. I feel guilty getting rid of it.” “I may need it…for an interview, formal event, funeral, etc.” How to organize your clothing and get rid of clothing clutter: What you will need: A full length mirror, a 3-way if possible For women: a bra with excellent support for when you try tops and dresses on Bags or bins for each of the following: hangers to recycle, donating, consignments, alterations An honest friend, family member or Image and Wardrobe Consultant A hanger stand for the extra hangers you are keeping Wardrobe Organizing Tips – How to declutter your wardrobe: Schedule adequate time on a specific day to begin the process Start with the easy decisions – let go of items that you know you will not wear again Try on each bottom – pants, shorts, jeans, skirts. Do they fit your current body shape? Are they comfortable? Do they fit your current lifestyle? Try on each top – coats, jackets, shirts, blouses, sweaters, tee shirts, camisoles. Ask yourself the same questions.… read more →
Wardrobe and Image Makeover You know what makes me the happiest? When I show a woman how to Shop in Her Closet © and dress for the body she is in today. She gazes at her reflection in the mirror with the widest smile and says, “I never thought that I would look good in this.” Yes, that makes me want to do a happy dance. Here are just some of the benefits of working with me, your San Diego Wardrobe and Image Consultant: • Save money – by creating new outfits from your current wardrobe and how to accessorize them. • Enhance your body type – by learning which styles, cuts, patterns, textures and colors are right styles for the body you are in today. • Elevate your self confidence – in the way that you present yourself in personal and professional environments. Let’s look at a few examples of how some of my clients used to limit their views of themselves and their wardrobe possibilities… Shirley’s story: We were organizing clothing to determine which ones she might keep and which she would let go of. Shirley thought that the leather pants that she wore when she was first married were no longer “appropriate” for her to wear. After all, she was now the mother of two children and her body was changed. As a Wardrobe and Image Consultant it is my responsibility to allow the client to see possibilities that enable her to make the decision comfortably. I asked Shirley to try on the pants…they fit perfectly and I think that she was surprised. I showed her several ways that she could create outfits for casual and dressier occasions by combining different tops, shoes, boots and accessories. She looked fabulous in every combination and best of all, everything… read more →
The 5 key elements you can use to learn how to create outfits: As a Wardrobe and Image Consultant with clients from San Diego to the east coast, I love to show women how to create outfits to expand their wardrobe, and update their look. You can do this with a “Shop In Your Closet” session or with a consultant in person. The holiday season will be here before you know it and in this post I’m going to show you how to easily create your outfit and look fabulous by using 5 key elements. (Look for the same dress and another version of an outfit in my next post.) Remember, that if you can’t hire an in-person consultant you can get help via phone, Skype and signing up to have me create your very own Pinterest boards! Organizing your clothing around these key elements makes dressing and creating your look so simple… Start with a basic dress – figure flattering, the way to use color is with something like this stunning red (keep everything else neutral), wear a comfortable length, make sure it’s easy to dress up or dress down (I call that “casual-izing”) Add a wrap – stay comfortable in all climates; can be worn around the neck when you want to be more hands-free Accessorize with a clutch – that’s fun, dressy, and has a shoulder strap option as well Wear a drop earring – that looks great with any length haircut and makes enough of a statement to add just enough jewelry and not too much (don’t compete with the dress) Beautiful shoe – comfortable height for standing all night Remember that less is more. The dress is the foundation of the outfit and the accessories complement without competing for attention.
Does any of this sound familiar? I waste so much time trying to figure out what to wear in the morning. I end up wearing the same top and bottom each time. My wardrobe is basically two or three colors. Everything goes with black, right? There is only one way to organize your wardrobe and closet…the way that works best for you! Sometimes my clients love their clothes and actually have a lot of items, but their complaint is that they don’t know how to expand their wardrobe and create multiple outfits. Out of boredom or frustration men and women end up wearing the same things repeatedly. Recently, I worked with someone and together we created 54 outfits from less than half of the items in her closet. During one of my “Shop In Your Closet” sessions she didn’t have to purchase one new thing and found 54 new outfits!! You can organize your wardrobe using one basic rule…it’s my “3-to-1 rule”. For every bottom (pant, skirt, jeans) you create 3 different options for tops (jacket, shirt, sweater). You can now organize these combinations in your closet so that you don’t have to recreate them from scratch. There’s no rule that says we have to organize our clothes by color or item (all the sleeveless, tee shirts, etc. together). Do the same thing with accessories, too. You can group the ties, belts, scarves, etc. with those outfits and hang them together. You’ll save so much time, feel and look great, and oh yeah, the compliments will start rolling in, too. Have fun with it.
I was reading something this morning entitled, “Treating Yourself Well” and it reminded me of why I include image and wardrobe consulting in my professional organizing services. My mission is to help busy individuals streamline their lives so that they make room for what is important to them. This includes being able to create and enhance your individual style. Why is that important? It makes sense to me that while we are striving for efficiency, promotions, the right partner, and simply to be the best person that we can be we deserve to: Feel our best, most confident self inside and out. Project our best self in how we move throughout the day. Share our unique gifts and strengths with everyone we interact with. My Outside In Approach is not about helping you figure out what to wear so that others will like the way that you look. What excites me is when I see a client look at his or her reflection in the mirror and smile, stand up straighter, and say things like “I never would have tried this on!”, or “My gosh, that is so me! Thank you.” I can see your beauty, star quality, and how to bring that forth no matter what you are putting in the way. Yes, confidence comes from the inside but the synergy between external and internal factors is very powerful and motivating. Yes, it really is all about you! The perfect time to identify your style and align your image and wardrobe with what you want for yourself is always NOW. You don’t have to wait for the kids to grow up, or to lose five more pounds. Look your best every day, in the body that you’re in today!
