Ways to be generous with your time is this month’s theme. We need to make the connection between how organization and time management benefits ourselves and others. If you want to be organized and make the most of your time you need to be able to:

  • Prioritize and re-prioritize.
  • Be flexible and adapt to the situation.
  • Set healthy boundaries.

Time management requires that you have a system that you can use on a consistent basis with relative ease. This system keeps you organized and prevents you from becoming overwhelmed with having too much to do. Any organizing or time management system has to be flexible enough to allow you to have balance in your work and personal life.

Organizing, time management tip #16: Leave the dirty dishes soaking in the sink, watch a movie or go to bed early. 15-20 minutes. They will be there in the morning.

Ways to be generous with your time should allow you to give someone special, including yourself, the attention that they need when they need it. You want to be able to set healthy boundaries and re-prioritize. Sometimes that means that you need to recognize when you need a break. Leave the dirty dishes soaking and spend time doing something more pleasurable once in awhile. Ask yourself, what is the worst thing that could happen if I wake up to a sink of dirty dishes? The answer is probably “nothing”. Perhaps it will motivate someone else to do the dishes for you this time which would be a great benefit.

Ways to be generous with your time

If you haven’t read my other posts, here is a summary of the tips so far:

  1. Forgive someone.
  2. Forgive yourself.
  3. Catch someone doing something right and acknowledge it.
  4. Allow someone to get ahead of you in line.
  5. Write a thank you note.
  6. Call someone special for no particular reason.
  7. Send an old photo of you and a friend or family member to that person.
  8. Send a “thinking of you” card.
  9. Schedule unscheduled time.
  10. Sleep in an extra 15 minutes.
  11. Wake up 15 minutes early and do something that you never have time to do.
  12. Buy fresh flowers for yourself.
  13. Buy an extra bunch for a friend or neighbor.
  14. Leave a piece of chocolate on your partner’s pillow.
  15. Play “your” song during or after dinner with your significant other.
